Keeping Skin Young-Looking and Healthy

Many of us think about taking steps for proper skin care when we see a problem or some damage in the mirror. With so many facialists, it is sometimes hard to choose one to fit your needs. A good idea is to know exactly what you want for your skin. Here is some advice:
Ask for a free consultation. During the consultation, inform the facialist as to what products you use, and what treatment you have had in the past. Also mention whether you have any allergic reactions that manifest themselves on your skin.
A good facialist will analyze your skin under a magnifying lamp. This will decide facial treatment needed.
Facial treatments can be divided in two categories: protective and corrective.
To turn back the clock of aging, it is important to avoid:
- Cold and wind exposure, unless you use protective creams.
- Sun exposure without a protective block on your face and body.
- Sun abuse, as ultraviolet radiation from sunlight, or tanning, damages your skin. This is the major factor in later skin cancer.
- Extremes—watch your diet. Weight loss can cause wrinkles on your face.
- Dehydration. Water is vital for maintaining a youthful skin. About 70% of our skin is water. Water also helps in nutrient absorption and digestion.
- Harsh alkaline soaps, which cause water loss and irritation to the skin.
- Freezing weather conditions. Winter is the enemy of your skin. The extreme cold causes water loss and dries the skin.
- Constant indoor heat, which is also very drying to the skin.
It is good idea to "wash less" by using a mild cleanser and toner after a facial. I suggest you rinse your face with distilled water or mineral water.
Teach children sun protection early. See your esthetician regularly for any change in your skin complexion and to help you keep your skin looking young.
Keep in mind that steam is not good for all types of skin. If you have dry or damaged skin, the steam will wash natural moisture from your skin, will enlarge your pores, and will irritate the broken capillaries, to mention just a few inconveniences.
My satisfaction is to see the best improvement in your skin every day, and for you to look better and better at whatever age. Nothing is more important than healthy and beautiful skin!
